Kevin De Bruyne’s existing contract at Manchester City doesn’t expire until 2023, but the Sky Blues are keen to tie him down to a new deal that will likely see him spend the rest of his playing career at the Etihad Stadium.

Fabrizio Romano wrote for CBS Sports that City are ‘still negotiating’ with the 29-year-old over a ‘contract extension’ and both sides are ‘optimistic’ that a deal will get done.

De Bruyne has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying 15 assists. No Man City player has made more assists in the Premier League than the Belgian international (10) while only Raheem Sterling (47) and Joao Cancelo (30) have managed more successful dribbles (29), so he’s still a key player as he nears the twilight years of his career.

The midfielder joined City from Vfl Wolfsburg in 2015 and has gone on to make 245 appearances in all competitions, scoring 60 goals with 104 assists. He’s won two Premier League titles, four EFL Cups and one FA Cup and has shown no desire to leave.

City have acted fast when it comes to extending contracts, tying down seven first-team players to new deals in the last two years, so fans shouldn’t be worried about De Bruyne.
