Gavin Bazunu has an uncertain future at Manchester City, with Dan Sheldon and Oliver Kay of The Athletic reporting that Southampton are interested in the 20-year-old goalkeeper.

Bazunu has recently returned from a loan spell at Portsmouth and doesn’t appear to be in Pep Guardiola’s plans moved forward, so the Saints have offered a deal worth £10m to sign him permanently.

The Republic of Ireland international joined City from Shamrock Rovers in 2019 and has gone on to make eight appearances for the U18s, five appearances for the U19s and 14 appearances for the U23s.

Bazunu’s inability to make a first-team appearance for City resulted in him being loaned out for regular playing time.

He first made 32 appearances for Rochdale (2020/21), conceding 59 goals and keeping five clean sheets. The 20-year-old was then loaned out to Portsmouth (2021/22) where he made 46 appearances, conceding 53 goals with 17 clean sheets.

Bazunu is being headhunted by a Southampton side reeling from the loss of Fraser Forster. The Athletic say talks have been ongoing for two weeks, so a move does look on the cards.

Sadly the Irishman won’t get to turn out for Man City, but he can still prove his worth at another Premier League club.
