Manchester City suffered a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Saturday evening and Jack Grealish was one of many players who underperformed.

The 26-year-old predictably started on the left flank after encouraging pre-season performances but didn’t make an impact at the King Power Stadium. He was hooked early in the second half by Julian Alvarez who did much more than the England international in little over half an hour.

Sean Walsh of 90min gave Grealish a player rating of 5/10 and said he ‘played way too safe’ against Liverpool. Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News gave the 26-year-old a player rating of 6/10 and said he ‘never troubled the defence’ before being substituted.

Against Liverpool, Grealish played for 57 minutes, had 27 touches, failed to whip in a crosses, completed 70.6% of his 17 passes, made one interception, failed to create a chance, had two successful dribbles, failed to register a shot on target and was fouled twice.

It wasn’t a good performance from the England international. Phil Foden could quickly take his place in the starting eleven if Grealish doesn’t improve. Man City begin their Premier League title defence away to West Ham United on Sunday, August 7.
