19 y/o could leave Man City this summer after Pep Guardiola decision

Liam Delap has an uncertain future at Manchester City, as the 19-year-old is knocking on the door of the first-team but isn’t likely to command a regular starting place next season.

Simon Jones of Mail Online says Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing Delap on loan, so that could be a good way to continue his development next season.

The 19-year-old joined City from Derby County in 2019 and has scored 10 goals with seven assists from 16 games for the U18s, made two appearances for the U19s without scoring or making an assist, and has scored 35 goals with nine assists from 36 games for the U23s, so it’s clear he’s outgrown youth football.

Delap has scored one goal in six appearances for the first-team, but he clearly needs regular competitive football to continue improving. The England U19 international looks to have a bright future and may jump at the chance to join a side like Brighton for a season, so time will tell if a deal gets over the line.

Jones says City are open to the temporary switch, so Pep Guardiola isn’t planning to have Delap in his squad next season – the reason is likely down to Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez being options up front.
