27 y/o undergoing medical, deal until 2027 – Man City player nears £45m move

Chelsea have been in talks to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City since May and Fabrizio Romano gave a series of updates on the situation over the weekend.

The Italian transfer expert said the Blues agreed a £45m deal with City, plus £10m in add-ons, adding that Sterling agreed to a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge with the option of another 12 months.

All that was left was a medical, but the 27-year-old was due to undergo tests on Sunday, so confirmation should come by Monday. A fee has been agreed and personal terms have been accepted, so the deal is complete pending the medical.

It’s a bold move by Sterling to leave Man City after winning a fourth Premier League title in five seasons, but the England international had qualms with Pep Guardiola over playing time and wasn’t going to be kept against his will.

Jack Grealish will be tasked with filling Sterling’s shoes and Cole Palmer should be given more opportunities next season, so City have enough in attack to cope with the 27-year-old’s departure.

And to get £45m for a player with one year remaining on their contract isn’t bad business. City could all but break even this summer while having replaced every outgoing player.
