4 apps in 7 years, £4.7m spent in wages – Man City must sell out-of-favour 23 y/o [Opinion]

A lot was expected of Arijanet Muric upon his 2015-move from Grasshopper Zurich, but the 23-year-old has gone on to make just five appearances in seven years at Manchester City. Muric rose through the youth ranks to the fringes of the first-team, making 24 appearances for the U18s and 16 appearances for the U23s, but he failed to realise his potential.

In 2018/19, the Kosovan international was City’s No.2 goalkeeper and spent the season providing direct cover for Ederson. Muric made a handful of appearances in the League Cup and boasted four clean sheets from five games, but he never kicked on from there.

City haven’t been able to find a permanent buyer for Muric, so they’ve continues to waste money on wages for a player that has no future at the Etihad Stadium. The 23-year-old earned £3k-per-week/£156k-a-year until 2019 where he had a payrise to £20k-per-week/£1m-a-year, so City have spent £4.7m so far.

Muric has been loaned out to NAC Breda (2018), Nottingham Forest (2019/20), Girona (2020-21), Willem II (2021) and Adana Demirspor (2021/22), but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up next season. Burnley have been linked with a move for Muric, so City should do everything in their power to get their money back.
