Report: Man City eye £103.4m Sergio Aguero replacement with four goals in five Serie A games

|

Manchester City have yet to replace Sergio Aguero after releasing him this summer, but Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness) say they’ve turned their attentions to Victor Osimhen. The 22-year-old has been prolific at Napoli this season and could register the best goal tally of his career come May.

City tried and failed to sign Harry Kane this summer while having an interest in Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe that has yet to go anywhere, but Osimhen appears to be a target too. The Nigerian international has scored 16 goals in 36 games since joining Napoli in 2020, so he has the potential to replace Aguero.

Osimhen has scored four goals in five Serie A games this campaign and looks set to surpass his record of 13 league goals in a season, so he’s attracting a lot of interest – Gazzetta dello Sport say Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid are keen and could challenge City for his signature.

The 22-year-old could soon have an offer on the table from Napoli to extend his stay beyond 2025, so he may not be attainable. The fact they’ve slapped a €120m (£103.4m) price tag on his head may also ward off interest. Time will tell.
