Nedum Onuoha gives verdict on Man City’s playing style and defensive shape

|

Nedum Onuoha was full of praise for Manchester City after Wednesday’s 5-0 win over FC Copenhagen, hailing their playing style and defensive record. He believes they could go far in the Champions League with how easily they’re navigating through their group.

Pep Guardiola’s men are top of Group G with nine points from three games, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one. City have made light work of Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and Copenhagen and Onuoha says he’s enjoying their performances.

He admitted on City’s Matchday Live show: “It just feels great to be watching that and supporting it. That’s some of the best football I’ve seen in my lifetime. They’re making the UEFA Champions League look easy and it’s not, it’s not that type of competition. They’re working both sides of the game as they’re not giving them chances.”

City have come close to winning the Champions League under Pep Guardiola but fell short at the final hurdle. They lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the 2021 final and lost on aggregate to Real Madrid in the semi-finals a year later.

It bodes well for City’s chances this season that they’ve blown away their competition and aren’t conceding cheap goals, but the big test comes in the latter stages.

Napoli and Liverpool look to be qualifying from Group A, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan look to be qualifying over Barcelona in Group C, Tottenham Hotspur look to be qualifying from Group D, Chelsea look to be qualifying from Group E, Real Madrid look to be qualifying from Group F and Paris Saint-Germain look to be qualifying from Group H, so City will have to beat the best.
