City’s squad are packing underkecks, toothbrushes and massive iPod headphones in readiness for their flight south to the Vodacom challenge. Will Emmanuel Adebayor be on the flight…?

At the SportCity unveiling of Carlos Tevez this afternoon, Mark Hughes gave this reaction to questions over a rumoured £25 million move for the Togo striker:

‘There has been discussions between ourselves and Arsenal. It is not the right time or place to discuss it but yes, there has been contact and possibly there is a deal to be done. It has not been concluded as we speak. Until it happens, it is not the time or the place to talk about it.’

Some news agencies are reporting that an MCFC medical is in readiness for Adebayor tomorrow (Wednesday afternoon).

We have had some feedback from some Gooners that they’ll be glad to see the back of Adebayor. We can only guess if that’s a similar reaction to many rags who have now declared they wanted rid of Cristiano Ronaldo and that Carlos Tevez is rubbish. Or is there something in what they are saying?

Looking at the player statistically, 114 appearances in all competitions plus 28 as a substitute racking up 62 goals in the process doesn’t look half bad. Personally I would take his Premier League experience over Samuel Eto’o’s any game in the week.

Meanwhile, we have already seen a fair number of senior squad departures from City this summer. Outside of Daniel ‘Ancelotti’ Sturridge and Darius ‘Turkish Delight’ Vassell, most have been defenders or midfielders.

The fact right now is that Adebayor could be about to become City’s tenth striker in the squad list even with Jo at Everton on a season long loan!

Which begs the question, with most of City’s incoming deals already concluded early this summer or close to conclusion, after Robinho, Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz and maybe Adebayor, who will Hughes decide to offload up front?

Certainly he has some fearsome options up front backed by a scintillating midfield including Petrov, Ireland, SWP, Elano, Kompany, Weiss and Barry, but he can’t keep them all.

Surely three from Bellamy, Benjani, Bojinov, Evans and Caicedo will be leaving The Blues.

Is Adebayor an all round good egg and another top drawer option? Which strikers will be calling for a taxi? Let us know both here and in the VMC forums!
