Against Modern Football

Whilst I was doing my regular VMC internet research I just happened to stumble on a YouTube video entitled, ‘Against Modern Football’. Fascinating watch to say the least.

I suppose being cocooned within a certain comfortable lifestyle means other assets of life can merely drift past one without a blink of an eye or a scratch of ones backside, however, on occasion all it can take is for something to jump out at you and BINGO, you see other walks of life in a completely different way.

In today’s modern society there is the ‘have’s’ and ‘have-nots’ (I guess this has been the in-thing since time in memorial) and there’s no doubt certain parts of society can take hum-bridge to those who have more of the touchy-feely material things than those who don’t.

I am not going to venture into the wider walks of society as I know I’ll be entering into un-chartered waters, and to be honest this is not the time or place. Nevertheless, I feel it necessary to touch on the subject of those within the footballing world who have little or no hope of surviving in today’s financial rat-race.

As a Citizen I can say I have seen the glass half empty and half full. There have been times when Manchester City Football Club were on the verge of going down the swanny and then low and behold we end up being the only club in the world which has more cash at its disposal than the United Kingdom’s annual GDP. WOW, the world has turned on its ass and before we know it we end up from being a club which many opposing fans envy (thinking of the Youth Team set-up) to a club which many think of as something which resembles Beelzebub himself.

I have no doubt every single reader (not Man City) would love the opportunity to have at least some of the riches MCFC has at its disposal, HOWEVER there is no club on this planet which offers so much in respect of giving so much back to the community. In fact, the owners (ADUG) have provided all sorts of touch-feely things to various parts of the world, all in the namesake of MCFC. Again the list is far too long to go into now.

I could go on and on but I think its time to reflect on the wider footballing community, take stock and just remember our roots.

I would imagine the majority of us have visited away grounds have thought, ‘what a shit-hole’. I know I have but without the odd shit-hole here and there English football as we know it wouldn’t be the same.

I am from an era where I remember the 70’s which provided nothing more than long hair, flares, glam rock, terraces and football hooligans. Thank gawd the 21st century has changed all that.

Against Modern Football

I am sure the following video will create more questions than answers. We at VMC are here to bring the vid to your attention, nothing more – nothing less. In addition, I remember our grass roots and I am not daft enough to realise, what we have today may not be here tomorrow.

Just before I sign off may I say I am not here to find solace but remember the times when the world was a whole different place.

There is hope, (other clubs) you just have to look hard enough and you will find it.
