Manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that he’s confident Sergio Aguero will be back and fit inside of the first few weeks of the New Year and that he should be back in contention for our game against Chelsea which everybody knows will go a long way to helping to decide the Premier League title this season.

In quotes carried by the MEN Pellegrini said that he was very confident he would be back for the Chelsea game, but it was also possible that he could return as early as January 18 when we face Arsenal.

The manager was asked whether Aguero would be back in time for the Champions League tie against Barcelona at the Etihad on February 24, and the gaffer answered.

‘Sergio has a torn ligament and I think it will be long before that tie, probably in the first few weeks of January, that he will play.’

That time frame would of course fit with the four to six weeks prognosis he was given but some feared it would be longer than that, but Pellegrini seems in confident mood and will of course received all the medical updates on his progress and recovery so far.

Of course, even if he returns as Pellegrini hopes, Arsenal may be a game too that comes too quickly for him, but it would give him time to plan for Chelsea.

Steven Jovetic is also expected to return to the squad next week which means our striker crisis should ease following the games against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion, and with the situation looking brighter the manager confirmed that we wouldn’t be looking to loan in David Villa as cover, because Edin Dzeko is also expected to be back from his calf injury in time for the game against Everton on January 10 and having talked about the transfer window and options, it seems the latest fitness update has allayed his fears and concerns somewhat on that score.
