Johnson, a brilliant talent with many years on the clock ahead of him, has fronted much of the new season’s club merchandising publicity and is a popular figure around a resurgent City squad poised for a first ever Champions League campaign. So why on earth would he consider moves to Everton or Liverpool drearily touted in The Street of Shame?
Roberto Mancini didn’t sign AJ from Middlesbrough to make up the numbers. He is still learning and now has a platform to ply his trade alongside the very best in what will be this season a squad rotation based campaign.
The fact is that any move out of the Etihad Stadium now for guaranteed starts on the advice of learned pundits with agendas to pursue would be a ludicrous step down.
