AJ Back In The City Mix

The club report this morning that quicksilver wing wizard Adam Johnson has defied all odds and is pushing for a place in the squad at Chelsea on Sunday…

AJ has been going great guns throughout his rehabilitation from a serious ankle injury. Without a doubt his return would be like signing a new player following City’s run of 12 games inside six weeks:

‘My ankle is almost there and I’m back in training again so I should be playing again soon, all being well…When I first picked up the injury, you are given a realistic target to aim for in terms of playing again, but it’s usually longer than it will actually be. The medical team have to err on the side of caution so you take your time rehabilitating.

‘It’s been tough watching every single game to be fair, not just the Reading game…You don’t want to miss any matches, so to have had to sit out while he lads have had such a hectic schedule isn’t easy.’

Roberto Mancini has an admirable track record in holding returning players back until they are fully ready, so we can expect City’s boss to temper what will be obvious delight at having AJ back amongst his options for a thrilling end of season run-in.
