Ajax Will Not Sell These Two At The Same Time But City Could Capture One – Opinion

|

Manchester City has been linked with highly rated Ajax duo Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs de Ligt for what seems like ages. But, let’s face it, there is no way the Dutch club will sell both, at the same time and to the same club.

Frenkie De Jong

Reports suggest the 21-year-old midfield sensation could be tempted with a Premier League move in the summer but, Manchester City are already blessed and top-heavy with classy players in this position. And so why would they squander the cash when there is no need?

Frenkie de Jong stats

Valued between £62m and £82million the capped twice Netherlands international would be a fantastic acquisition. However, I think the media are barking up the wrong tree.

Matthijs de Ligt

Here is a player where I think the media might have it right on the money. The 19-year-old centre-back is brimming with class and charisma.

The difference between De Jong and De Ligt is that a defensive position could become available within the next 12 to 18 months.

Matthijs de Ligt stats

We know aging Vincent Kompany won’t be around for a lot longer while there are doubts whether Nicolas Otamendi will be at the club in a couple of years time.

Therefore, and if I were to have a punt, I would say the likelihood of Matthijs de Ligt moving to the Etihad is more likely.

If and when?

I could envisage a pre-contract agreement between both City and Ajax. Even a deal and then a loan back to his current club until the timing is right for him to join MCFC on a full-time basis.

How do you see it?
