All About The Money?

Vital Manchester City’s newbie, lyates2000 sent us the following article.

It was only 20-years ago the league could have been won with hard work, endeavour and a sprinkle of magic. Now it seems it’s all about the money!

Since the start of the Premiership money from all over the world has been poured into the league, which in turn has attracted the world’s finest players. This, as you would imagine has enabled the product to blossom and now the PL is beginning to reap its own rewards by attracting billions of viewers from all across the globe.

Then came the Champions League, followed by what we now call the ‘must finish in the top four clubs’! So how is any other team supposed to compete when the current English elite have been in the CL final in the last six years. Even Manchester United have reportedly made around £25 million for simply appearing and losing in the final. In addition, their so-called success has created a massive debt, one of which may in the end cripple the club.

The amount of cash spent by the top clubs over the last ten years is astronomical, however, so far nothing has been said?

Then came along Manchester City with it’s vast amount of wealth, and ever since we’ve seen the all too familiar stories of ‘Manchester City ruining football’?

Back in January when the Eastlands club tried to buy AC Milan`s Kaka, Executive Chairman Garry Cook and his team were slated from all corners of the world simply because they had a vision. Mr Platini, the UEFA President accused us of attempting to ruin football. This is the same Platini who surprisingly has nothing to say about Real Madrid spending an estimated £200m in the summer.

Next season, Manchester City will have more British based players in the first eleven than any other team in the league. In addition, the club has one of the best youth teams in the league, so why on earth has anyone got the audacity to complain?

Do we receive any credit for this? NO. So why has my club received so much criticism? Perhaps it might be jealously who knows but I’m getting fed up reading about it.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool should be worried about Manchester City’s rise from the ashes, and once again I know we will become a major force, not only in these islands, but worldwide.

The clubs who finished below us in the Premier League surprise me a little. If Manchester City had not been taken over and another team had, I would be asking myself the question, ‘why not us?’

With Manchester United success being put down to having, in my opinion a fantastic manager and players, I wonder where they would be without the money? The same could be said for Chelsea and Liverpool.

So Manchester City will be buying their way to success will they? Hasn’t we seen this before with Blackburn and Leeds?

Rant over.
