An Inadequate Season?

Only a few weeks ago it seemed that this may be the year that City finally achieved something of note. The club had a home FA cup quarter final tie to look forward to and were pushing for Europe through their league position. Five games down the line and blues fans are beginning to write the season off as yet another ‘typical city’ let down.

65% of supporters polled on this site believe the season has been tedious at best. 19% of all those polled believe that the season has been a serious let down.

Despite nearly two thirds of those polled thinking the season has been one of under achievement there are still a number of City fans who remain happy with the season the club has had. Some 14% believe the season has been a success, I can only imagine they follow the youth team, while 21% of those polled believe the season to have been adequate.

So all is not doom and gloom in the minds of all supporters. Some obviously recognise the strides forward the club has made in terms of developing its youth policy and improving its financial position.

However the bottom line remains that the majority of the supporters of a football club measure success against what happens on the football pitch. City have at times been awful this season, the recent capitulation against Middlesbrough and Cup defeat to West Ham being cases in point, and seem no further forward than when Keegan left the club last season. The fact that a sizeable majority of supporters see the season as less than adequate should give the board cause for concern. Attendances are dipping because the fare on offer is not worth the entrance fee. I accept there are mitigating factors such as injuries and the size of the squad but if this run of form continues into next season the dangers are there for all to see.
