BlueWolfie sent Vital Manchester City the following.

Dear Mr (or Mrs) football ‘journalist’.

Your job, as I understand it to be, is to report on the day’s footballing events and stories, collating news together and putting it into a concise article that informs its readers. Occasionally, when the full story is not available you can draw upon your expertise to speculate in a sensible and professional manner, leaving the reader to decide for themselves as to any potential outcome.

Unfortunately, 90% of you were off the day that memo was sent around the office.

For too long, you have been bringing your biased opinions and hatred for certain teams, and essentially writing whatever you feel like, without a care or a whim as to the consequences. Sometimes, you will even go so far as to make a story up completely, just to fill some space, or take two entirely unrelated news items, placing them together to create something that fits your agenda for that particular day. Indeed, so often does this occur one must only read your article to discover that whatever headline you have used the majority of the time it has no bearing on the actual story.

I may come to you as a Manchester City fan, but I feel that I can safely speak for most Premiership fans, irrespective of the club they support. For too long we have had to endure the drivel that you consistently spout, because you are desperate to get that headline that everyone will talk about. Good football journalism use to be an art-form, but apparently that has gone the way of the dodo, as it would appear that anyone that can understand how to use a keyboard, is now employable.

What happened to you people? Why do you deem it necessary to continue on this course? Once upon a time, you were trusted, and admired, but by your own hands you have destroyed it all. Of course there is time for someone to step forward and break this cycle, but then that would require intelligence, wit, a fortitude for uncovering the truth, and a clean and clear conscience. Sadly, I suspect I shall be waiting for a very long time.

Yours sincerely
A fan.
