There is no doubting Nicolas Anelka’s ability or his goal scoring record. 48 goals in 101 appearances for The Blues is testament to that fact.

But his track record as almost the ultimate mercenary shown by his relentless desire to move clubs after a couple of years is a lack of loyalty to be avoided.

Now he has publicly stated his desire to leave Bolton and drawn a line in the sand for would be suitors. He has revealed in the French L’Equipe sportspaper that his hefty salary must be maintained…

‘I’m not prepared to make any sacrifices on a financial level. I know my level and my quality. I will not accept any offer.

I recall him sulking by the bench at Highbury in January 2005 when he decided he had had enough of MCFC and the loyal support many of us had given him, the night SWP scored that cracker.

Anelka’s disinterested image that night must be available on video somewhere and I would urge Svennis and Hans Backe to seek it out before considering bringing back a player who could destabilise a steadily bonding young squad with the presence of his ego alone.
