Another injury boost for Man City as 27 y/o returns to training ahead of Chelsea clash

|

Aymeric Laporte returned to training on Thursday ahead of Manchester City’s trip to face Chelsea, and the Premier League defending champions have been given another injury boost.

Mike McGrath of the Telegraph said earlier in the week that John Stones was a doubt to face Chelsea, but the 27-year-old was recently pictured in training and could make the squad that travels to West London.

Stones has yet to make an appearance this season, spending the campaign on the bench or being left out of the matchday squad. He’s had a muscle problem that was further exacerbated recently.

The England international was an unused substitute in City’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur (August 15), didn’t make the squad in their 5-0 win over Norwich City (August 21), was an unused substitute in their 5-0 win over Arsenal (August 28) and 1-0 win over Leicester City (September 11) while not making the squad in their 0-0 draw with Southampton (September 18).

Stones was a regular alongside Ruben Dias last season but hasn’t been given a single minute of playing time yet. It’s unlikely he’ll get straight back into the team on Saturday but could make the bench if he’s deemed fit.
