Man City hold “informal talks” to bring 51-cap international to the Etihad

|

Manchester City are looking to bring in a new striker to the club, and are directing their interest towards the Napoli centre-forward Arkadiusz Milik, according to reports.

What’s the word?

With our current injury concerns in the attacking department and with Sergio Aguero at the age of 32, we need fresh blood to come into the team to shake up and excite the first-team dressing room.

Not one player has managed to get closer to the Argentinian magician’s record, having scored 180 Premier League and is the fourth-highest goalscorer in the league’s history.

With this in mind, we need to put the future of the club first. With both Vincent Kompany and David Silva gone, two fantastic servants of City, there has to be new faces coming in that can create new history at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Italian journalist Ciro Venerato (via Sports Illustrated), we are linked with a potential deal for Milik, who is a Poland senior international, making 51 appearances for his country and has been regular for the Serie A side over the years.

The report adds that “informal talks” have taken place with the likes of RB Leipzig, Manchester United, Fulham and Tottenham, as well as City in the past few weeks.

With just one year left on his contract at the San Paolo Stadium, there is every chance that we could wait until next summer when he will be allowed to join on a free transfer, providing the fact he does not sign a new contract with Gli Azzurri.

The player that Negredo should have been

Milik has a fantastic left foot on him and possesses plenty of strength, that will provide a different dimension than what both Aguero and Gabriel Jesus bring to our side, and is certainly not a player that we have been Pep Guardiola go for over the years.

But it would be a breath of fresh air to see Milik come through the door, no matter how likely (or unlikely) it may look to be happening at this stage.

Having scored 48 times in 122 outings for Napoli, there is no doubting his ability as far as goalscoring is concerned. He reminds me of what Alvaro Negredo was for us. Powerful, athletic, had a great shot on him coming from the left. But unfortunately, it just didn’t work out for him, despite finding the net 23 times in 49 outings, as per TransferMarkt.

At the age of 26, Milik would have plenty of sell-on value and could be the player that we all wanted Negredo to be. Whatever happens, we need to sign a striker as well as a defender with only a couple of weeks left of the transfer window to run.
