Report: Club could enter talks with Man City over 26 y/o if they fail to sign £50m player

Nathan Ake may have an uncertain future at Manchester City after enduring an injury-hit debut campaign and has been offered an escape route by Arsenal, says Sky Sports News (h/t TEAMtalk).

The 26-year-old spent most of last season on the treatment table and substitutes’ bench, resulting in him being behind John Stones, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order, so he might struggling for playing time in 2021/22.

Arsenal want to bolster their backline and hope to capitalise on Ake’s situation at the Etihad Stadium if they fail in their pursuit of Ben White. They’ve had bids of £40m and £45m turned down for the latter, but they’ll give up on signing him if Brighton & Hove Albion reject £50m.

City might consider letting Ake go for the right price. The Netherlands international has made only 13 appearances in all competitions, amassing less than 1000 minutes of playing time. City have been linked with centre-backs this summer who would surely hamper Ake’s hopes of getting action, so something has to give.

The Premier League champions paid around £40m to sign Ake last summer and may request a similar amount to sell him, so Arsenal won’t get him for cheap.
