Avoiding The England Game Like The Plague

I don’t care how many Manchester City players will be included in Fabio Capello’s Three Lions team next month but I for one will be avoiding the England v Hungary friendly like the plague.

I appreciate the Football Association need to keep the revenue coming in – after all they do have a huge debt hanging over their head and need to pay for the new Wembley Stadium somehow. But on a personal note I’m worn out of watching a tired and under-performing England team.

In all honesty I’ve moved on from the internationals and like many of us I’m looking forward to the beginning of the new Premier League season. At least football fans will be entertained and not subjected to the endless hacks, fouls and cheating. Ring any bells – World Cup South Africa perhaps?

In an attempt to put bums on seats the FA are considering a massive 33% reduction in the admission price. Why I hear you ask? Well I suggest it has something to do with poor ticket sales. Who in their right mind wants to fork out their hard-earned money simply to watch a meaningless match?

I am an English born Brit and I like to think I am as patriotic as the next person, but I would rather watch a domestic pre-season friendly – even a reserve match than have to fork out a small fortune on a pointless Wembley trip.

The stadium holds 90,000 however; I would be amazed if the attendance comes lose to 25,000. And to add insult to injury the Nationwide Building Society announced earlier that they have decided to pull the plug on their England sponsorship. Perhaps the said company has picked up on what many of us think – the average fan has fallen out of love with the international team.

I’ll finish off by adding…

I want England to win but I for one will be avoiding the England v Hungary game like the plague.
