Report: Player ‘pushing’ for Man City ‘departure’ amid interest from La Liga giants

|

Aymeric Laporte has an uncertain future at Manchester City this summer as he’s no longer commanding a starting place under Pep Guardiola and is open to a move away.

90min say the 27-year-old is ‘pushing’ for a Man City ‘departure’ amid interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, but it remains to be seen if he’d be sold with the new season just over a week away.

City are putting all their efforts into signing Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, so the idea of having to replace their centre-back isn’t too appealing.

Nevertheless, Laporte isn’t happy. The Spanish international has made 111 appearances in all competitions since joining City from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, scoring eight goals with three assists.

Laporte is no longer a regular, however, and finds himself behind John Stones and Ruben Dias in the pecking order, so he’s willing to leave. Real are desperate for defenders after losing Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, so they might be an option.

Barca have also been linked, but it remains to be seen if Laporte is granted a departure after Eric Garcia made the switch – Nathan Ake would be the only cover at centre-back.
