Two weeks is a long time in football Blues, and it certainly is in the Premiership/league. Aside of England’s dreary efforts in Europe, future transfer speculation has been trawled out yet again by bored hacks. So for example, that’ll be Micah Richards joining the rags while the dreadful Mido and the suspect Kewell arrive at Eastlands. At least Kewell certainly meets the Pearce/Wigley criteria of being regularly injured!

What a relief to be getting back to business and finding out what Stuart Pearce’s Manchester City squad are really made of. Make no mistake about it, it’s a challenging run-in but our destiny remains in our own hands. The sooner we attain the points required to ensure our top flight survival the better.

The Boro victory was vital in that it maintained that 6 point gap on the bottom three teams and I suggest it certainly secured the manager’s position until the end of this season.

However, as I said last week, the pressure remains and a win at Newcastle is essential if we are to avoid going into a showdown with Charlton knowing that Liverpool, Arsenal, the rags and Spurs wait for us in the last seven fixtures.

We need to transform the work rate and effort displayed against Chelski and Boro into winning momentum. Nevermind Pearce’s regularly questionable tactics or squad rotations, a lot could depend on the fitness of our key players. I am holding out for our potential season saving striker Emile Mpenza to shake of that worrying thigh injury and lead the line again against the Barcodes. It looks as if Richards is burnt out meanwhile and it may be as well to rest the lad for a few games even if he physically could take the field on saturday.

Back to back wins please Blues!
