Backroom re-shuffle at City

At long last, Stuart Pearce has reshuffled his backroom staff, with Steve Wigley being promoted to first-team coach after a successful short spell in charge of the reserves.

With the focus and expectation on changing the playing staff, it is encouraging to see some much needed movement behind the scenes, which marks a final break from the Keegan era…. and not before time.

With the changes made, Psycho is continuing to extend his influence across the club, both on and off the pitch. Next season’s squad will be the first one that can really be called Pearce’s as he continues to clear out the last vestiges of the previous regime.

Psycho will I’m sure be influenced by the successful Clough/Taylor management double act during Nottingham Forest’s glory years, and perhaps this is an attempt to emulate his mentors…perhaps the likes of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison may have also inspired him.

Anyway, we’ll only have to wait until next season to see whether this re-shuffle has been a success. Meanwhile Frankie Bunn takes over responsibilities for the reserves, whilst Derek Fazackerley moves downwards from first-team coach to a scouting role.
