Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to go 13 points clear of the West Londoners and maintain their 11-point advantage over second-placed Liverpool.

City made it 12 consecutive wins in the Premier League with their narrow victory over their title rivals and Joao Cancelo was one of many players who impressed over 90 minutes.

Fans on social media couldn’t help but laud his effort. The 27-year-old is having a great season under Pep Guardiola despite operating in a makeshift left-back role.

Cancelo grabbed the assist for City’s winner against Chelsea and was given a player rating of 8/10 by Manchester Evening News for his overall contribution.

Against Chelsea, the Portuguese international had 91 touches, won three aerial duels, completed 79.7% of his 74 passes, created one chance, had one shot, made two clearances, gave away one foul and had one successful dribble.

Cancelo has made 29 appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring three goals with eight assists. He’s been outstanding at right-back and left-back and is one of City’s players of the season.

Next up for the Premier League leaders is a trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton on January 22.
