George sent Vital Manchester City the following:

Simple as that City fans. That’s quite enough of nowhere near enough, not-so-super-Mario. Please, just go. After last night’s effrontery to Manchester City’s ambitions and the game itself, you are no longer welcome. Mancini is clearly, and quite rightly, fuming and extremely disappointed. He has to be seen to act on what many see as effectively scuppering our chances of turning the result round at home to Dynorod Escalope. Several members of the team were clearly livid about the man’s ignorance and arrogance in the face of a great opportunity.

And I think it goes deeper. You don’t have to be incredibly insightful like me to realise half the squad would rather he didn’t figure in the equation. Tevez, for example, is clearly quite baffled by the young un’s laziness and inflated ego, and he’s not the only one. De Jong couldn’t have been more diplomatic when asked how he felt. How does a puritan like Silva put up with that kind of disregard and stupidity? Each – or the vast majority – of the rest of the squad works continuously to improve, preserve individual reputations and work as a unit to fight the City cause.

A spirit is developing, a unity, and Mario is taking the piss. Enormo-wages aside, it must be hard to motivate and apply yourself to sustaining this for the greater good when you’ve got Balotelli loping around being too cool for school. It is quite simply embarrassing, and I think Mancini has to make an example of it if he’s to keep the dressing room for the rest of the season, or expect any respect from his peers.

Unless he’s as misunderstood as his teenager demeanour suggests, he is plainly not where he feels he should be, and has no interest or affinity with City. I’d guess most of us would rather he dig his own massive hole elsewhere lest we fall into it. Mancini took a gamble, and its clear form Balotelli’s sporadic flashes of brilliance that had it paid off, we’d be laughing. But it so hasn’t. His continued involvement in the work-in-progress, for me at least, will do us no good whatsoever. If he was playing for the cause, assisting and scoring freely, chasing down and retreating to defend, you could almost forgive him. Alas, he just seems to be spoilt little tool.

And that’s a shame in some ways. At this rate he’s going to hold himself back, as any potential employer will think twice about taking on such a tool. Okay, I realise there’s no personality inventory as part of the transfer medical, but his misdemeanours have been high-profile enough to warrant concern. Get rid before it gets worse, I say. Or we’ll have another Robinho on our hands, just not half as funny.

We may, of course, have lost last night anyway. But it would have been a lot easier to take had Balotelli not handed his colleagues such an uphill struggle with such inconsideration. And I honestly don’t think he’ll even be aware of this. It wasn’t passion or heat-of-the-moment stuff he will rue or even apologise for today.

He might be propped up in front of a microphone and fed things to say, but I think – and hope – it’s more likely he’ll be dropped and hidden from view till he can be shipped out to his next of many clubs to come. One day, he might come good. Think Anelka, who was never this bad, but one day just grew up. It might happen, but it ain’t gonna happen at City, and I’m not the only one who’s had a gutful.

That will be all, Mr Balotelli. You’re not what we’re looking for right now. Good day to you, sir.
