VMC received the following media release from the NextGen series…
‘Barcelona edge past City whilst Sporting put on a dominant display in Lisbon.’
Manchester City 1 vs. FC Barcelona 2
It was the clash of the titans at Hyde yesterday evening. European giants FC Barcelona met NextGen debutants Manchester City in a game full of magical football. The game was watched by a packed crowd at Ewen Fields including First Team coach Roberto Mancini and Club captain Vincent Kompany. City showed glimpses of real quality, but it was the boys from La Masia who played the better football and finished the game deserved 2-1 victors.
Sporting CP continued their fantastic run in the NextGen Series with a comfortable 6-1 win in Lisbon. The Portuguese side outclassed Molde FK for the majority of the game with Alberto Coelho scoring two goals to add to his tally this season.
Commenting on tonight’s game at Hyde, the NextGen Co-Founder said:
‘The game was electric tonight and both teams showed immense quality out there. I think playing in a smaller capacity ground created a superb atmosphere and all of the players were given incredible support. Man City and FC Barcelona have embraced this tournament and that is real evidence for what this tournament can achieve in the months and years to come.’
The full time scores, and scorers, for the games last night were:
Manchester City 1 (Bunn) vs. FC Barcelona 2 (Miguel Angel 2)
Sporting CP 6 (Coelho 2, Rosa, Chaby, Semedom, Edgar) vs. Molde FK 1 (Magnus)
