According to Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports and the Guardian, Barcelona have agreed a deal for Eric Garcia. The 19-year-old will join the Catalans next summer on a free transfer after his Manchester City contract expires, returning to the Camp Nou four years after he originally left.

Garcia has made 30 appearances in all competitions since joining City from Barca in 2017. He’s never established himself as a regular under Pep Guardiola which is why he opted to run his contract down at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish international has amassed only 200 minutes of Premier League football this season and finds himself behind Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake in the pecking order.

Guardiola has been full of praise for Garcia in the past, insisting he ‘doesn’t make mistakes’ and is a ‘stable’ option at centre-back, but he hasn’t given the defender enough opportunities.

Signing Dias over the summer showed he didn’t trust Garcia in the first-team, so few can blame the 19-year-old for becoming disillusioned. Whether he’ll have better luck at Barca remains to be seen, but his former club have been very keen to re-sign him regardless.

Perhaps they have big plans for Garcia next season…
