Barton Digs Deeper Hole

Apparently Joey Barton was only allowed to remain at Manchester City because he was too good a player to sack. Barton also did Manchester City a favour by continually flouting the law because it made the club realise just how important Barton was to them. So instead of expecting the player to buckle down and work hard to repay the faith they had shown in him ,the club should instead be rewarding him with an outrageous salary for making them realise how important he is to them.

That is the gist of the statement made to Sky Sports News by Joey Barton. Now readers of this site will know that I am not always in support of the club and the way it acts but in this instance I am 100% behind them. Barton owes his employer’s more than money, he owes them a debt of gratitude for the faith they have shown in him. Let’s get it straight, without Manchester City there wouldn’t be ‘Joey Barton the Premiership footballer’. Without Joey Barton there would still be a Manchester City, and one rocked by considerably less scandal at that.

Barton has made himself look a fool and by continuing to blame the club and suggest that they owe him some reward he is digging himself deeper and looking even more the fool. £28 k per week is a large sum of money, despite what Barton may say, and is in my opinion more than enough compensation for his loutish behaviour. His attempts to suggest his behaviour has somehow rewarded the club by realising his importance simply make a mockery of the game. Wake up and smell the coffee Joey and visit the real world …. then you may have cause to moan.
