City’s disastrous away form continued this lunchtime as they were humiliated 4-0 by Wigan at the JJB, as they recorded their biggest win in their Premiership history.
Until I saw the team line-up, I thought this game had all the makings of a dour 0 – 0, but seeing the negative team selection and formation, I knew we were going to be in for a rough time.
Granted, City have a really bad situation with injuries, but the 4-5-1 with Corradi as the lone striker sent out a clear message that City had not come to win the game and were more concerned with not losing.
It’s too early to say there’s now crisis at City, but if things don’t improve quickly the panic button will be well and truly pushed.
For me, Pearce again showed bad judgement and demonstrated a lack of belief in his players for the team selection and formation.
Similarly, all the senior players on the pitch today need to do a lot of soul-searching and reflect on yet another toothless display; once again, they have let the manager and fans down badly; quite simply, even despite the injury situation today’s performance was unacceptable.
I felt sorry for young Michael Johnson making his debut in such depressing circumstances, but he was left isolated by his more experienced colleagues.
It’s hard to see where the next goal is coming from with City’s first choice strikers looking demotivated and way out of form. I would have thought today would have been an ideal opportunity to give City’s prolific Academy strikers, Sturridge and Etuhu a chance, but disappointingly they didn’t travel with the squad.
Psycho looked ashen-faced at the final whistle and he’ll no doubt ponder where it’s all gone wrong this season. One thing’s for sure, he may not have too much time left to put it right; let’s hope he can though.
One thing’s for sure though, it’s time shoot that scruffy horse !
