Injury blow as Man City’s £25.2m defender, £108m midfielder and £54m forward will miss Porto clash

Manchester City have confirmed they will be without four players ahead of Wednesday evening’s Champions League clash with FC Porto – Benjamin Mendy (muscle injury), Aymeric Laporte (muscle injury), Kevin De Bruyne (fitness) and Gabriel Jesus (thigh injury).

Oleksandr Zinchenko has returned from a muscle injury, however, so he’ll be available for selection. Joao Cancelo, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are also expected to feature at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mendy is expected to be out of action until after the November international break. The £25.2m-rated left-back has a muscle injury that kept him out of our 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

Laporte has only made two appearances in all competitions this season. The £54m-rated defender tested positive for Covid-19 at the start of the campaign and he missed our win over Arsenal due to a muscle injury. He’s expected back in just over a week.

De Bruyne picked up an injury during the international break, but he’s believed to only be short of fitness. The £54m-rated midfielder could therefore return before the month comes to a close.

Jesus suffered a thigh injury in our 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 21 and has been out of action ever since. The £54m forward could be back in a month.
