Darren Bent scored twice in a 2-1 win for Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium earlier today which means Villa’s threat of relegation has disappeared. But more importantly from a Manchester City perspective the gates are most certainly open to overtake Arsenal and finish the season in third.

This is what Arsene Wenger had to say following his teams defeat.

‘Mathematically [third spot] is not in our hands anymore but the Premier League is special this year and we have to respond in our last game and see what happens.’

‘Yes, [our home form has cost us this season] and our home form against teams who do not play for the [title has cost us].’

‘Our job is to win football games and when we don’t do it we cannot be happy. We’re disappointed because we made a very bad start, we had a lot of energy to come back in to the game but overall we were punished for a flat start. We lacked sharpness, quick vision and Aston Villa defended quite well, that explains it.’

The last seven days has been awe inspiring. I just wonder if the next seven will be as good as the last.
