I’m sure that all VMC, and hopefully other Vital members will applaud the appointment of David Bernstein as Chairman of the Football Association.

City fans will recall the amazing changes he brought to the Club in the late 90s early 2000s, easing the club prudently and diligently out of debt, establishing new credit lines and other forms of financial support. This laid the foundations for the exciting team developed by Kevin Keegan and smoothed the transition to the new stadium at Eastlands.

I was disappointed when David left the Club because the style of management that was in situ with David and his Chief Operating Officer Chris Bird was a yardstick for any club struggling financially and I’m absolutely certain that if David would have remained at the Club a couple of years longer, City would have achieved more on the field.

There was a clear plan for ‘phased development’. Playing staff improved each year. Finances improved each year.

If David can bring some of this to FA it will be in the best hands possible.

David is very capable on all fronts. A master technician in dealing with matters at all levels. He also has the tactical understanding of politics as well as a self-determination to succeed in a hands-on environment.

He will devise ways for the FA to attract funding, to re-establish its image, to improve relations with UEFA, FIFA et al.

So well done to him. I wish him well in his appointment and look forward with interest to his future improvements and achievements.
