Classy Bordeaux international attacking midfielder Yoann Gourcuff is the latest star to be linked with The Citizens. His future remains unclear according to reports in La Republique…

Gourcuff has often been referred to in France as the next Zinedine Zidane such is his style of play and he’s won many plaudits which made the 24 year old a regular with Les Bleus.

Sadly, he is one of the infamous and widely savaged 23 players who striked from training at the World Cup amid the mayhem in the French squad and there is a strong possibility he’ll be up for exiting stage left at the best optioned opportunity.

French sports website 365.com’s football transfer section among other newswires has reported on Gourcuff’s return to training and the state of affairs at Les Girondins, who after such a promising season in Ligue 1 last time around wound up with nothing won and are in need of cash. They would be looking for around £22 million for the midfielder.

Furthermore, Bordeaux’s poor finish to the last campaign means they have no European football this coming season.

New Bordeaux coach Jean Tigana however will be intent on keeping Gourcuff who according to team mates would prefer to stay in the south west of France for now. His father Christian Gourcuff has confirmed his son’s sentiments.

Like most emerging French stars these past two decades, the spectres of Arsenal tactician and part time TF1 commentator Arsene Wenger and his scouts have loomed large for Gourcuff, especially after Wenger secured the smooth signing of striker Marouane Chamakh without any fuss from Bordeaux. But Manchester City have been on the phone.

Gourcuff fits the bill for the type of driving creator that Roberto Mancini likes at City. He’s another six footer and is widely respected on the continent.
