‘Brilliant’ player tipped to hand in ‘transfer request’ to force Man City move this summer

|

Manchester City aren’t making much progress signing Marc Cucurella after having their opening bid rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion, but Kevin Campbell says the 24-year-old could take matters into his own hands by handing in a transfer request.

City offered £30m for Cucurella this summer but had their bid quickly rejected as they’re holding out for £50m. The Spanish international is reportedly unhappy with Brighton pricing him out of a move, so Campbell says a formal request might be the only way to force a transfer.

He told Football Insider: “Brighton might say the only way we will let you go is if you put a transfer request in. That is what happens. When you put a transfer request in the club is likely to negotiate. Brighton want top dollar, but City don’t want to pay £50million because Brighton got him for cheap.

“Pep knows him from when he was at Barcelona as a kid. He did very well at Getafe and was equally brilliant in his first season in the Premier League. He is a high energy player who can do it at both ends of the pitch. I think he is worth £50million. City should pay it.”

Cucurella joined Brighton on a five-year deal from Getafe last summer and went on to make 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal with two assists. The 24-year-old created 42 chances, made 28 successful dribbles, whipped in 115 crosses and averaged a tackle (93) or interception (30) every 25 minutes from 35 league games, so he’s effective in both boxes.

Cucurella is keen to join City this summer and isn’t pleased that Brighton are standing in his way of a transfer, so a formal request might be necessary.

    Total rubbish

  • Bluenose says:

Would have thought we didn’t need to put these “stories” in the press for weeks to destabilise a player and bully a smaller club to let a quality player go on the cheap. Why don’t we just offer more if he is such a brilliant player that Pep loves??

  • Gary says:

Brighton are clearly being greedy and selfish at the same time….sod em…he should get himself out ….drop the Zeros and get with the Premiership hero’s ….CTID.

    • Dave says:

Maybe you should walk away and pay 70mil next season, quality player, young, can cover many position. If Grealish is worth 100mil any player in a bottom half team should be worth 50mil to City. Man up stop lowballing or miss out

    • Alfredthegreat says:

Not greedy at all, Brighton don’t want to sell him, so that’s that unless Man City offer ‘Silly money’. And Brighton don’t negotiate a price ask Arsenal re Ben White, so the so called £50m asking price is pure fantasy. Two fantasy articles by Cr*ppy in 2 hours, at that rate he’s written another 8 while I’ve been at work.

Nothing to do with greed. Albion have stated they do not want to sell.
He has 4 years left on his contract
I wonder if you would have had the same attitude in the days when City were just another football club.
If City are desperate to sign him then pay the amount that would convince Tony Bloom to sell.
As for City the world’s richest club trying to bully and destabalise a player at another club
      Shameful.

  • Bernie says:

Does a contract mean nothing these days? By signing his contract he promised to play for BHAFC for the another 4 years. That contract is legally binding. I don’t thing Brighton is being greedy at all. That’s how much the player is worth to the team. Also, the price was based on the fact that Tony Bloom did not want to sell him after just one year. And that seems to be working. So, piss off Pep find your own talented diamonds in the rough.

  • Chris says:

It is a shame that a club like Manchester City feel that 30mil for our player is all he is worth Brighton are very good at finding talented players irrespective of the price we pay. City sale a player for 32mil hoping to upgrade with a better player but want to pay less. I know much of what is being written is paper talk but is it fair on the player or Brighton.
Brighton do not have the resources of the top six sides but they will not be bullied in to selling a player unless it is right for the club Signing a contract should mean something
