Bring It On!

A month is a long time in Football and surely there has never been a more seismic summer than this one in the history of Manchester City Football Club. Following that abysmal last season, myself and many Blues worldwide are absolutely buzzing about the upcoming campaign.

SGE is as shrewd and respectable a gaffer as they come and I like the cool, calm way he operates. He has set about the task of rebuilding our squad with gusto backed by Chairman Frank who has been true to his word in funding an unprecedented MCFC recruitment drive. There are not many teams in the Premier League who have made the majority of their signings with the accent upon youth and Svennis should be applauded for that. We have seen enough ageing mercenaries at City to last a lifetime! Clearly, the team are in better hands than they were last May.

I am hoping that the momentum of optimism surrounding the club that we have now will steamroller it’s way on to the pitch at Upton Park tomorrow and that we get off to an absolute flyer. However, we must not, and cannot expect too much too soon. Sports hacks in the ‘Street of Shame’ will of course be sharpening their pencils in the hope that we get stuffed.

The most obvious area of concern will be the team’s initial lack of knowledge of each other which means increased responsibility for Dunney and the likes of Richards, Johnson and especially Mpenza who I would like to see leading the line in London. Some sort of continuity will be paramount, especially as I see the absence of Champions League Distin a little uncomfortable. Then it will be a case of getting the squad to gel together as quickly as possible and that will take time. Remember, AC Milan wasn’t built in a month.

Am I alone in bemoaning that the clash with the rags has come so early in this new era? That said, it could go either way and if the Blue Massive get right behind the team from the outset and get them fired up, who knows, or dares to dream?

Talking of getting fired right up, our midsummer music to march out to poll revealed that the majority of our Vital visitors would like to see ‘Ace of Spades’ by Motorhead hit the tannoys when Derby County come to town. So saddle up your Harley Davidson’s Blues and get ready to do a ton down the wrong way as the rollercoaster kick starts!

Enjoy!
