Fresh from beating Premier League leaders Chelsea, Manchester City visit the Reebok Stadium on Saturday confident of taking maximum points.
With Bolton Wanderers two points behind foot of the table Portsmouth one would think buckling Bolton should be a breeze, or will it?
Wanderers boss Gary Megson knows he’s under immense pressure to grind out a result, otherwise it could be curtains for the 50-year-old Manchester born manager.
In his pre-match press conference Megson said his team need a result at the weekend.
He continued…
‘There are a few other clubs in the same boat because there were about five or six other clubs in the bottom half that lost last weekend.’
The opposition
‘Manchester City is going to be a huge game, regardless of the circumstances. It’s just the fact that they are a short distance down the road and that they will bring plenty of support.’
‘The team that I pick will never be found wanting in terms of effort and honesty. It’s whether we can be good enough on the day against another team that has those attributes and some of the best players in the world.’
‘It isn’t going particularly well at the moment so what we have got to do is work hard, roll up our sleeves and make things go well.’
When a reporter asked…
‘Can you put this fixture in the same category of games that include Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea – ones that excite players, staff and supporters?’…
Gary replied…
‘I think so. In footballing terms, they are up with those other clubs. They haven’t been there for that long, so they will have to establish themselves but I think that eventually they will do so.’
‘They have brought in a lot of players and people seem to think that everything clicks straight away. Footballers will have to deal with things like moving his family and settling into new surrounds and that takes time. It is similar on the pitch and playing with new team mates.’
‘So they are strong at the moment and I expect them to get even stronger.’
Bolton career
Megson took over as manager of Bolton Wanderers on 25 October 2007 in a two and a half year deal.
