The summer transfer window has not even opened but some are saying the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and our very own Manchester City are going to be busy in the transfer market.

I’m sure the majority of clubs are already wheeling and dealing but the most pathetic rumour I’ve heard over the last few days is that Manchester City are prepared to offer Real Madrid £100m for Cristiano Ronaldo.

In my opinion this sort of speculation is nothing more than a certain British red-top newspaper desperate to sell its hard-print but hey, its difficult times out there and so I’m going to do what some of the hacks must be doing when sat in front of their laptop with a cup of coffee in one hand and bacon sarnie in the other. Yes you guessed it, their mind begins wanders into a state of fantasy and bingo, they come up with an amazing headline and then fill the article around it.

Based on the coffee and bacon buttie theory (don’t mind if I do) I have come up with my own rumour. Ready…Lionel Messi and Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola are having an affair and an un-named source has told Vital Manchester City that Messi was overheard to be talking about buying a house on the outskirts of Manchester. Blimey, I didn’t realise how easy it is to come up with a ‘cock and bull’ story. Care to have a go yourselves?

On a serious note, ESPN football pundits Tommy Smyth, Shaka Hislop and Robbie Earle look ahead to potential changes for the big six clubs in England.
