Capello Ignorant Of City Players Schedules

Conspiracy alert. Erratic England manager Fabio Capello fielded four Manchester City players against Ghana yet chose to rest Rooney, Terry, Dawson, Cole and Lampard…

The decision to send home the five England regulars was based upon the premise that:

‘I decided the five players to let go because they had just played four games in ten days.’

Well on face value, that’s alright then. But hang on a minute. City are about to play their 50th game of the season’s campaign against Sunderland who to further emphasise the point have played 17 games less than The Blues this season. Furthermore, City’s squad just came through 13 fixtures in a 46 day period.

Dig deeper and lest we forget, Wayne Rooney embarked upon a lengthy head straightening disguised as an injury related absence earlier in the season. Frank Lampard himself has only played 23 fixtures this season including run outs for England.

In a fortnight when Micah Richards suffered a wholly unnecessarily risked injury for England Under 21’s, James Milner, Joe Hart and Gareth Barry playing the full 90 minutes against Ghana alongside a full second half Joleon Lescott appearance cannot at all be viewed as ideal, particularly when you consider that both Barry and Roberto Mancini have bemoaned the intensity of City’s fixture list in recent weeks.

There’s a long held belief that the Football Association favour the erstwhile ‘Big Four’ whenever they can. By the looks of who took to the field in the friendly last night, it also appears that Tottenham, newly established in last season’s top four also came in for preferential treatment alongside Chelsea and United.

All eyes on a reaction from Mancio because if Sir Alex Ferguson was in his shoes this week, he would be going ballistic.
