Vital Manchester City member Carl Tilson aka mcfcthriller beat short listed candidates such as Gary Barlow, Ryan Giggs, Bradly Biggins and Danny Boyle to win this years Pride of Manchester award.

Pride of Manchester Award

The award for the Mancunian (or adopted Mancunian) of 2009 was open to nominations for both famous celebrities or not so famous members of the public. Pride Of Manchester members voted for who they deemed the greatest ambassador of the city in 2009 or the person who has contributed most to Mancunian life.

2,838 members nominated 24 different Mancunians or ‘Adopted Mancunians’ for the 2009-10 award with the final result being…

Carl Tilson 31.5% votes
Gary Barlow 25% votes

Winner – Carl Tilson

With massive support from Manchester City supporters clubs and those Pride Of Manchester members who read his story, the grandson of Fred Tilson, the Manchester City & England legend who scored two goals in the 1934 FA Cup Final, beat off stiff celebrity competition to deservedly win this year’s Mancunian Of The Year Award. Suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the muscle wasting disease that affects around 2 boys born every week, Carl has tirelessly championed his charity in a bid to raise more awareness of the terrible disease.

Aged 23, Carl is fully aware that there is currently no cure and most boys with DMD only have a life expectancy of 18-25 years. For that reason, despite being almost completely paralysed by the condition, he has set upon a campaign to raise awareness of the disease and raise funds to help research in finding a cure.
