Manchester united’s Michael Carrick suggests that he might not be after donning his invisibility cloak again this weekend…

Utterly swept aside in Newcastle three nights ago, the rags £19 million midfielder has been bloody awful of late yet fancies his sides chances in Manchester this weekend:

‘People can say what they like and fancy who they want. We know what we can do. We know the players we have got in the dressing room.’

…That’s assuming they can actually see Carrick who despite being named on the team sheet repeatedly this season has been conspicuous by his absence.

Carrick, who turns 31 years old at the end of the season is something of a veteran now, and were he starting for City in the absence of suspended Gareth Barry on Sunday would easily be The Blues’ oldest player:

‘We just want to be back to top form and winning the game, regardless of the situation in the league really. Nothing has been handed out. No trophies have been awarded. ‘We just want to hang in there and be there at the end. The cup is different. We need to produce that now. It would be nice to knock them out. More importantly it would be nice to progress.’

..he said before vanishing in a puff of red smoke.
