Celebrity Fit Club ?

Has anyone else noticed how much fitter and faster Robbie Fowler looks since his return to Anfield?

At times during yesterday’s dull match against Wigan he looked a different player from the Robbie that turned out in a blue shirt at Eastlands. Intelligent running off the ball, deft little flicks and touches, good link-up work with his strike partners and even a header on target – what has happened to him in the short space of a couple of weeks?

I guess you could expect him to show a bit more passion in his beloved red shirt, but in such a short space of time the transformation looks remarkable. What I’m struggling to get my head around however is the fact that Benitez ( and the rest of us ) are able to see that Robbie’s fitness just isn’t up to first team standards and he’s immediately on a period of intensive training, but he was deemed fit enough to play for City in his current condition. Now, does this mean that City’s training regime and player fitness levels are lower for certain individuals? Surely Psycho wouldn’t tolerate that !

I just can’t believe that City are behind other clubs when it comes to training and general levels of fitness. Stuart Pearce’s arrival has seen a big improvement in the physical and mental attitude conditioning of the squad ( a certain individual excepted of course – no names mentioned ) and the whole club has a more professional feel about it since the KK days ( although I do seem to remember that Keegan also had Robbie on a special training regime a couple of seasons ago. )

So how do you explain it? Can certain individuals get away with poor conditioning at some clubs just because of their celebrity status ? …. it’s left me wondering.
