Report: Club ‘interested’ in Man City’s out-of-favour defender on a season-long loan,

Celtic have moved quickly in the transfer market this summer, signing Kyogo Furuhashi, Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide, Liel Abada and Carl Starfelt, but Sky Sports say they’re not finished.

The Hoops are on the hunt for their sixth acquisition in Yan Couto and are ‘interested’ in signing the out-of-favour Manchester City defender on a season-long loan.

Couto joined City from Coritiba in 2020 but has yet to make an appearance for the Sky Blues. He was loaned to Girona last season and featured 30 times across the board, scoring two goals with five assists.

Sky Sports say the 19-year-old has interest from clubs in Portugal, so Celtic have competition for his signature. Couto has little chance of dethroning Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo at right-back this coming season, so a temporary move away makes sense.

He can get valuable first-team football elsewhere before returning to fight for his place the following summer. Couto has four more years left on his contract, so City aren’t looking to rid themselves of him permanently. It may just take a couple of years for him to develop.
