A report in yesterday`s Times Newspaper claimed that Manchester City have agreed to pay £800,000 in compensation to Leeds United after they pinched two of their promising youngsters. Daniel Swan and Louis Hutton, both 14 years old.

The Coca Cola League 1 Club were very unhappy that City had decided to “poach away” two of their most exciting prospects, but they now seem to be content with the fee that they have received. City made an initial offer of £70,000 for both the players but that was rejected swiftly.

The move took place earlier this year and was referred to the Professional Football Compensation Committee and the decision was made so that a tribunal would take place to settle the dispute.

The question will always arise as to whether clubs should be looking to sign players at such a young age. Many argue that it is too hard to judge their potential at such a early stage of their career. However you never know, these guys could turn out to be world-beaters that play regularly for their country, or they could just fade away into the background.
