Manchester City have today agreed a deal with Bury, that sees them take over the old Carrington training camp for the next five years.

The 22 acre Trafford based facility has been leased to Bury for all the League Two clubs age groups from senior to youth and they will now leave their Lower Gigg Lane base to partake of the facilities that were recently the home to the likes of Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Joe Hart and any other player you like to list.

It’s a fantastic deal for Bury, as their ground currently only has one training pitch and has long been an issue, and it’s a serious statement of intent for the club who are looking for promotion.

From our end obviously it’s extra pennies in the coffers from a now redundant site and given it boasts six top of the range turf pitches, an artificial all weather surface, fitness, medical and performance analysis suites and changing rooms and offices, it would seem a shame to have just bulldozed it and tried to make use of the acreage in another way – and clearly leasing it to another side remained our ultimate intention.

Bury Chairman Stewart Day said of the deal.

‘We are thrilled to have reached this agreement with Manchester City, particularly given the keen interest in a number of parties in leasing the site. The facility at Carrington is out of this world and it was an opportunity that we simply could not turn down.’

Day goes on to say that it’s in easy reach of the Bury area, given the Greater Manchester ring road, and key to their desire to snag the ground was the fact that they can now achieve their ‘vision’ of having the Academy set up from age 8 all together at the same time as they bid to develop their own talent in the future.
