The WorldWideWeb is buzzing with the news that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is alledgedly considering buying out Manchester City….

This bizarre rollercoaster of a season continues. The vast majority of it has been quite frankly crap but there have been enough flashes of inspiration to suggest that the squad bolstered by our extraordinarily successful MCFC Academy should more than hold it’s own in a generally ordinary Premiership with the right investment. The stark fact is that for the vast majority of English top flight clubs, they will never have a chance of winning anything again unless they can attempt to compete with the spending and wages of the rag-Chelski mini super league.

Sure, the unwanted distraction of MCFC takeover rumours has been bubbling under the surface throughout this season. It’s been a difficult scenario for us to take in watching the For Sale signs go up from the City board having witnessed the acromonious Americanisation of the global rag machine just outside Manchester. I’m sure I’m still not alone in hoping that it isn’t a US led consortium that eventually owns our club. At least we could then keep up the marvellous USA chants whenever the rags come to town!

Back to reality and there is no doubt that in the modern Murdoch ruled football world Manchester City Football Club has tremendous potential, despite the continued debt. As we’ve said many times before here at Vital everything is in place for take-off. The last couple of seasons have been ropey and the board’s desperately dangerous barrel scraping transfer and big wage policy has almost seen us lose the top flight stability that a decade ago would have been unimagineable.

Above all else, any new owner must listen to the fans and how we want to see our club run. It’s even more important than ever that the MCFC Supporters Trust is firmly in place for a summer of potentially unprecedented change at our great club.

If those reports are true this morning, I for one will welcome a Phoenix Nights style catering revolution at Eastlands!
