Manchester City are represented in the latest Premier League team of the week that has been selected by BBC pundit Garth Crooks.

Actually Garth is now down as a ‘Football Analyst’ these days, a posh term for a pundit then!

The performances by Ilkay Gundogan and Sergio Aguero in the four nil victory over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend at The Hawthorns was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other, in the opinion of the former Spurs striker anyway, most impressive performers in the topflight over the latest weekend.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Crooks, we’ll also not argue with it, selected both as part of his team but explaining his choice he told the BBC.

‘He set up Sergio Aguero’s first goal and scored two himself in a 4-0 romp at The Hawthorns. The German has settled brilliantly in the new Manchester City line-up and may have provided manager Pep Guardiola with the solution to the Yaya Toure problem. The question is, can Gundogan replace the goals Toure produced in their last Premier League title-winning season? If the answer is yes then Guardiola has cracked it because I am in no doubt that with Kevin de Bruyne’s goalscoring contribution from midfield, City are on course for something special again this season.’

‘I’ve always wondered what actually determines whether a player is deemed world class. He must play for his country and be their star performer on a regular basis. Another benchmark in the debating party is that all must generally agree with the verdict. No-one would deny Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi are world class but an argument might ensue over Paul Pogba, for example. However, there is no argument over Sergio Aguero.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to both for their recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the points.

Full Team:

Tom Heaton (Burnley), Seamus Coleman (Everton), David Luiz (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Ross Barkley (Everton), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Gaston Ramirez (Middlesbrough), Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City).
