Love him or hate him but TV, radio presenter and Manchester City supporter, Stuart Hall celebrates 50 years in the broadcasting business.

To mark the occasion the BBC are to broadcast a live two-hour show on BBC Radio 5 Live. The aforementioned company will devoted the show to the TV and radio host, famous for presenting long-running game show ‘Its A Knockout’ later this month.

I for one remember watching Look North, the BBC’s regional news and current affairs programme way back in the early 1970’s and I recollect being gutted when my parents moved my brother and I north of the border to began a new life. It was an end of an era, or so I thought as I remember Stuart’s persona and delightful personality in front of the camera was second to none. But to my delight, Eddie Waring ( BBC’s Rugby League commentator and legend at the time) and Stuart Hall were to become nationwide household favourites when they began to do voiceovers for what was to become a national TV treasure – It’s A Knockout.

A look back at the game show which originally ran from 1966 – 1982.

Hall, who will turn 80 on Christmas Day will feature on Five Live alongside friends and colleagues, including Coronation Street actor William Roache, Manchester City legends Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee and Liverpool star Graeme Souness.

The event, fronted by Mark Pougatch will take place at the City of Manchester Stadium, home of Hall’s beloved Manchester City. The time and date for the broadcast are yet to be confirmed.
