City will be hoping that this year’s remembrance day fixture gives the supporters something positive to remember in a season that is failing to ignite.

After winning another of these must win fixtures against Middlesbrough a fortnight ago, City find themselves in a similar situation after another defeat on the road at Charlton last weekend.

A first home defeat of the season is unthinkable after results elsewhere last weekend dragged Newcastle into the bottom three and put City within touching distance of a relegation scrap.

On the plus side City’s home form has been admirable, if not exciting, with the blues still having to concede at Eastlands this season.

Vital Quotes:

Stuart Pearce is talking up his misfiring strike force in the hope that Newcastle’s legendary defensive frailities surface at Eastlands.

‘I’m confident in their ability. But you must remember that two of them are new to the club, Paul Dickov has come back and Darius Vassell is only just fit.’

‘We are creating chances and soon they will be converted. If I want to change a game now, the option is open to me.’

Manchester City Team News:

Dietmar Hamann is fit again and could replace Claudio Reyna in midfield. Bernardo Corradi is in with a chance of a start after finding himself on the bench for Charlton and Boro.

Player to watch: Richards

Will celebrate his England call up with a performance of poise and majesty.

Newcastle United Team News:

Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi trained on Thursday and could be in line for a shock return, even though he is poised to undergo hip surgery. Kieron Dyer could return, but Shay Given and Obafemi Martins are doubtful.

Player to watch: Sibierski

The most obvious bet of the weekend for first or last goalscorer.

Match Facts & Stats

City and Toon games are strong on mythology with many observers predicting wide, open goalfests. In reality, in recent years one goal usually settles the contest . Last season at Eastlands was an exception when the blues ran out 3-0 winners in a game memorable for Joey Barton receiving harsh treatment from the fans after asking for a move.

Ref Watch:

Oh Graham Poll …. He’s a f****** a*******

You get the jist of it. The premiership’s biggest celebrity (well in his own mind anyway)

Match Prediction:

We’re doing well in must win, home fixtures this season so I reckon a City win. I think we’ll finally concede due to the Sibierski law of returning players. 2-1 City and the Toon’s troubles to deepen.
